Never underestimate the power of your shoes! Your shoes make a more significant statement than you may think. The same outfit can go from a super casual daytime look with a pair of white trainers to dinner and date night just by changing into a pair of red heels.
I often see women with a look that is just a little off. Most of the time, a simple shoe change would make all the difference. This can go both ways. A heel at a soccer game on a Saturday is just as out of place as a trainer is out of place at a fine restaurant on Saturday evening. Your choice of shoes and handbag has more impact than you think. I quite often take a second pair of shoes with me when I’m out and about for a long day which can allow me to go from grocery store to dinner.
We need to be careful of trends that are not becoming for mature women. As a woman over 50 or 60, there are combinations that you should stay away from. The first is the current trend of wearing trainers with a dress. This trend can make an older woman look like a bag lady. The second trend is never to wear a super high heel with a mini skirt. This is just untasteful and unflattering on mature women.
Last but not least, crocks and Burkistock style shoes are no-nos for the on-trend woman. These are just aging and very unflattering for even young women, much less us older ones. We are living in an age when we have all kinds of very comfortable and attractive shoes to choose from. Even if you can’t wear high heels there are lower kitten heels and wedge style shoes to chose from. Today, there are all kinds of pretty flats and ballet slippers as well as great-looking loafers and booties if you’re unable to wear heels.
Don’t be afraid of a pop of color, A bright red, blue, or even yellow shoe can take your outfit to the next level. Metallic shoes are having a moment right now as well. Gold, silver, etc. can also elevate your look. Have some fun with your shoes! I know we all love a nude-colored shoe, I have several myself. Just think outside the box and put on a shoe that adds a pop of color. It will add joy to your day!
