Hello fashionistas, It’s getting to be that time of year when the little black dress comes into play quite nicely. A great black dress is a perfect choice for so many occasions as we enter the holiday season. This simple black dress can be dressed up for super formal events such as a cocktail party, Christmas or New Years’ eve event, or even a winter wedding. It can also be worn for casual events. The black dress can be styled more casually for work or church, with a scarf, blazer, and a pair of nude pumps.
The difference is simply the choice of accessories! Diamonds and rhinestone jewelry with lots of sparkles are excellent for more formal holiday occasions. Pearls are always a classic choice at any time. Pair these looks with strappy heels, or even some metallic silver or gold pumps. A small clutch or evening bag is best for a formal look. A fur or faux fur coat would be fabulous with an LBD. Also, a long neutral winter coat would be beautiful, as well. The many ways you can style the LBD are endless! Its a must-have in every classic women’s wardrobe.
The best little black dress for the women over 50, in my opinion, have the following features:
- They have a sleeve that hits at the elbow or slightly below. A 3/4 sleeve length is the most flattering of all sleeves. It hides any “chicken wings” we get as we age and lose muscle mass. It doesn’t add the appearance of extra fabric to the sides of our hips and waist like long sleeves tend to do.
- The V neck is also the most flattering neckline on every body type. The V neck elongates the silhouette and draws attention to your face.
- A dress that hits just below the knee looks best on more mature women as our knees tend to be one of the areas that can show our age. If you have great knees (lucky) then keep your length just at or above your knee. Any professional stylist will recommend a dress this length for mature women as it looks tasteful, sophisticated, and classy.
- A wrap style dress is very figuring flattering on just about everyone, as well as an empire waist style, this can create the illusion of a waist even if you don’t have a defined one. This silhouette helps create the coveted hourglass shape.
I hope these tips will help you find the perfect little black dress that makes you look and feel your best! When that happens, you will be confident and the best version of your self.
